Where are my military mamas out there who have heard the term “embrace the suck”? Often times we hear the term at work and we buckle down and handle our business.
Embrace the Suck
Well, have you ever thought to embrace the suck when dealing with your children and family? Let’s face it, being a mom is hard work. And while you may portray your “perfect” family in photos, life is anything but. I’m learning that instead of getting mad or frustrated I need to take a deep breath and embrace the suck.
This past week we were confined to the spaces of a tiny hotel room where I had to corral two kids ensuring they don’t call room service or order a movie. But one thing, one very important item, was missing in our room. A crib. Little did I know this one item would make or break my night. Haha, who am I kidding I knew I needed a crib I just failed to ask and hoped for the best.
Well, the best never happened. Bedtime came and went for my kids and not one of them would fall asleep. First of all, both wanted to sleep with me and neither can sleep close to the other for the inevitable feeding off one another’s actions. It was seriously a nightmare. How was I supposed to sleep! Oh, I know, ask for a crib!
Instead of getting burning mad at the kids, I took a deep breath and decided to enjoy the extra snuggles with my babies who won’t be babies forever. And who knows how long they will want to lay with their mama. So mamas, embrace the suck! Take a deep breath and enjoy the little things happening in that moment despite the stressful situation. You don’t want to miss out on precious memories.
What are some ways you’ve learned to enjoy the little moments with your kids?
